OBX Surf Fishing is a no-affiliate, no-upsell guide to surf fishing the Outer Banks of North Carolina — from Corolla to Ocracoke. Reports, spots, rigs, regulations, and honest gear talk.
Who Writes This
Bret Doman writes OBX Surf Fishing. I fish the Outer Banks year-round — spring drum at Cape Point, summer pompano in the Avon trough, fall blitzes south of Oregon Inlet, the slow February days when nothing’s biting and you go anyway. I run the site with one editorial rule: no affiliate links, no paid placements, no “best gear of 2026” listicles. Everything published here is built on time spent on the sand, dated catch photos, and primary-source citations — NCWRC, NPS Cape Hatteras National Seashore, NC Division of Marine Fisheries.
Reach me at hello@obxmaps.com. Catch reports, corrections, and tide-window questions all welcome.
What We Do Differently
- No affiliate links steering you toward $400 rods you don’t need.
- Dated, time-stamped catch photos.
- Primary-source citations for regulations: NCWRC, NPS Cape Hatteras NS, NC Division of Marine Fisheries.
- “Last updated” dates on every regulation and seasonal page.

From our sister site: OBX Surf Fishing is part of the OBX Beach Network, operated alongside our sister site OuterBanksBeachDriving.com. The driving site covers permits, vehicles, and ramps; this site covers actual surf fishing — species, rigs, bait, and reports. Same team, different jobs.
